Sea Shepherd, a conservation society has achieved a great victory towards protecting whales in the Southern Ocean.

Through months of campaigning against the Japanese whaling, Sea Shepherd has forced the Japanese Government to recall their fleet for this season.

Zoe Beckett, a Second Officer on board the vessel Gojira said the main tactic of Sea Shepherd was to simply find the factory ship, the “Nisshin Maru” and block the slipway.

“Without the amazing support of the Australian people, Sea Shepherd could not have achieved this great outcome, said Ms Beckett.

An approximation of saved whales this year is 900 through the efforts of Sea Shepherd.
